The rats were playing games in their dirty smelly drains.

They were swinging from their whiskers –

They were skipping with their tails.

“Ugh!” cried the people, “Look there are rats –

big rats, little rats; horrid, dirty ugly rats!”

“Huh!” groaned the rats, “Nobody likes us, everybody hates us.

We’re going down the garden to eat some worms.”

With a whip of their tails they shot down the path.

When they saw the worms, they were having lots of fun –

chomping and stomping and partying in the mud.

“Come on you rats – you’re welcome along.

Come and join our wormy song –

We’re wriggly, we’re squiggly –

we like everyone.

We’re sticky, we’re icky –

we’re having lots of fun!”

So the rats joined in

and now they all begin –

chomping

stomping

swinging

The slugs were spreading slime and having a slippery time.

They were skating on their bottoms –

They were skidding on their heads.

“Ugh!” cried the people, “Look there are slugs –

big slugs, little slugs; horrid, dirty ugly slugs!”

“Huh!” groaned the slugs, “Nobody likes us, everybody hates us.

We’re going down the garden to eat some worms.”

With a slip and a slide, they slithered down the path.

The earwigs twirled in the dark of the damp fungussy bark.

They were squealing with delight –

They were twiddling all their toes.

“Ugh!” cried the people, “Look there are earwigs –

big earwigs, little earwigs; horrid, dirty ugly earwigs!”

“Huh!” groaned the earwigs, “Nobody likes us, everybody hates us.

We’re going down the garden to eat some worms.”

With a fiddle of their feelers they scurried down the path.

The maggots were merrily bopping – dancing until they were flopping.

They were rocking all together –

They were rolling up and down.

“Ugh!” cried the people, “Look there are maggots –

big maggots, little maggots; horrid, dirty ugly maggots!”

“Huh!” groaned the maggots, “Nobody likes us, everybody hates us.

We’re going down the garden to eat some worms.”

With a bob of their heads they jiggled down the path.

When they saw the worms, they were having lots of fun –

chomping and stomping and partying in the mud.

“Come on you maggots – you’re welcome along.

Come and join our wormy song –

The wasps were humming along to their queen’s sugar-sweet song.

They were clapping with their wings –

They were drumming with their feet.

“Ugh!” cried the people, “Look there are wasps –

big wasps, little wasps; horrid, dirty ugly wasps!”

“Huh!” groaned the wasps, “Nobody likes us, everybody hates us.

We’re going down the garden to eat some worms.”

With a zip of their wings they zoomed down the path.

When they saw the worms, they were having lots of fun –

chomping and stomping and partying in the mud.

“Come on you wasps – you’re welcome along.

The people in their houses, drank their cups of tea

and were watching their TV – so they did not see

and they did not hear the party going on,

and the creatures’ invitation to join in their song –

“Come on you people – you’re welcome along.

Come and join our wormy song –

We’re wriggly, we’re squiggly –

we like everyone.

We’re sticky, we’re icky –

we’re having lots of fun!”

But they didn’t join in

so they didn’t all begin –

chomping

stomping

skipping

swinging

skating

skidding

squealing

twiddling

rocking

rolling

clapping

drumming

Then all the creatures sent up a cheer.

“The silly people don’t know we’re here.

We’re playing with the worms and we’re all good friends,

and we hope our party never ends!

We’re wriggly, we’re squiggly –

we like everyone.

We’re sticky, we’re icky –

we’re having – lots – of – fun!”
